The Learning Tools and the Record Sheets support the Curriculum for Excellence-Experiences and outcomes in Reading. It consolidates the reading and allows the children to capture their thoughts and ideas using a range of communication styles. The tools will develop the children's skill to write in a variety of forms. It will also enhance their inferential and evaluative skills when responding to both specific and overall aspects of the text.

The tools in this book will help the child to develop the skills to organise, write and think both creatively and independently.

This book also includes gold, silver and bronze certificates of achievement. These certificates can be gained by the children based on the targets and expectations set by the teacher. On attaining each award, the pupil and the teacher can then set future targets.
